Girdwood hike

The hike in Girdwood was absolutely amazing. A more perfect day couldn't be imagined. Clear blue skies with not a cloud in sight. Emily said that there was this trail down in Girdwood that we had to do, something about a hand tram. I had no idea but i was more than game. We got down there around noon and headed for the trail. We weren't sure if it would still be snowy or not. It ended up that the first half of the trail was great, all melted and clean. The rest of it was just the opposite. Icy and slick in spots, our progress was slowed down considerably. About half way into the hike we started hearing these screeches and shouts. Not quite sure what to make of it we kept on going. The noises got louder and louder until we rounded a bend and came face to face with about 50 middle schoolers out on a field trip. It was not what we were expecting. After threading our way through them we finally, after much careful treading on ice, made it to the hand tram. It was a little tram that was about 100 plus feet above a gorge. The basket thing had just enough room for about two to three people. A rope went through the middle of the basket for one to pull on to get to the other side of the gorge. It was pretty cool to say the least. After crossing we sat down for a bit to enjoy the sun and the view until the mosquitoes drove us away. We headed back across the gorge, down the trail, over the ice, through the woods, in the stream, to the car.
